I suggest getting a discount dental plan as an alternative to insurance. You can save 10-60% off most dental procedures. You can start using the discounts almost immediately and plans start at $79 for the entire year. I work for http://www.dentalplans.com where you can search dentists in your area who accept the plans. I hope this helps!
Look, dental insurance won’t cover all the stuff already wrong, for the first year. It’s probably going to cost around $26 a month, and there’s a limitation to how much they cover – usually 50% of major work, up to $750 or $1,000 a year, MAX.
So it’s not usually worth it. Most people who want to buy dental insurance, want to get thousands of dollars of work done, and then drop it. The policies are built to work around that.
You’re best bet, is finding a local dental school. Or at the very least, go in for just the initial cleaning and exam (maybe $100) and work out an ongoing plan to get your teeth capped over the next few years. MOST dentists, WILL offer interest free loans if you’ve got good credit.
Dental insurance isn’t like car insurance or house insurance or even health insurance – it doesn’t pay an unlimited amount once you buy it. It’s EXTREMELY limited, and most Americans do NOT have dental insurance coverage. They save up, and pay out of pocket.
