29 year old single mom needs dental help, teeth are making her sick but has only medicaid.?
She is a beautiful woman and needs 2 plates and her teeth pulled. Her self esteem has bottomed out and her health is suffering, including heart problems. She is in college, raising her kids alone and paying all her bills, but because the dentures are seen as cosmetic she can get no assistance. She can’t eat right, is sensitive to cold, has absesses and bleeding. If you can’t chew your food and have constant infections it has a physical effect on your health. Why are plates seen as cosmetic when Dr.s relate severe dental problems to heart disease? Where can she find help?
medicaid will only pay 439.00 each year for dental and will no cover any cosmetic proceedure. This is my daughter, and she works hard. She recieves assistance for her education and if she works she loses assistance. She has 2 kids that would need day care and can’t afford it. She is single and has no help from the father. Please, don’t think she isn’t trying, she has been doing everything she can. We live in a rural location and there are few resources. I hope none of you ever have to live with less.

I I am a 33Yr old mom of three with the same problem and wish i could smile and have my selfesteem back. I am on disabilty and medicade to. I have had two heart procedures and the bottom part of my lobe of my lung removed last year. All I ever wanted in life Besides my family and my happiness is a beautiful smile but, i have not a drop of extra finances that can go to my teeth. I also can not afford to get ill from infection because of the metal in my heart. I only have fifteen teeht in my mouth. Thank The Lord above that he blessed me with a kind husband who tells me how beautiful i am. He also has three children from a previous marriage so we have six together and though he is not able to get my mouth fixed because he has all eight of us he is working12hrs a day to take care of his family he still somehow tries to cheer me up by giving me hope that maybe when we get any little window where we can take on another payment he will try to restore my self esteem some how. I love him so much for that even though its not getting my smile fixed
If she had Medicaid, then the state will pay for her dentures. They pay for everything else for these "people".
Tell her to call around and find a dentist who takes Medicaid and do from there. The dentist usually has to send a pre authorization to the state to get approval, so tell her stop wasting time and get moving.
If she told you Medicaid won’t pay, then she is probably trying to leech some money off of you. Tell her get out there and get a job and be more responsible!!!
jeez
i have never heard of such a thing. you can even get braces for your teeth with medicaid. she needs to talk with someone else. in the meantime maybe there is a free clinic around your area that takes care of dental work. we have them in my area. dentists volunteer and take care of all patients with no insurance. im sure you may have something like that where you are. check around for her. keep in mind that she will probably need to go on antibiotics before she has any work done to her teeth since she has a heart condition but im sure she will be informed of that. good luck.
I do not know the reason why the plates would not be covered. You may want to help you friend by finding the nearest dental college in your area.
Many of these colleges have programs that the public can participate in that the students are involved in.
Your friend may able to get the dental work done there, without a fee. The students are completely supervised, and their instructor will be involved at all times.
I know several people who have been in dire financial straits, and have been able to get dental work taken care of in this manner. Have a good day.
Dental schools sometimes offer free or very inexpensive procedures. You might want to look into that.
Tell her it is best to get a job with medical insurance instead of waiting for a free handout! Are her legs and arms broke? Get a job. I get so tired of working to support people like this. I have 5 kids and my hubby and I do it all on our own. I work part time and him full time we don’t use the system for anything. Go to college part time and work full time. Life sucks! welcome to the real world of parenthood and growing up.
I think if she gets a referral from her regular doctor it will be seen as a medical problem vs a dental problem. When I had my wisdom teeth my dental was tapped, but because they were impacted my oral surgon got some money from my health insurance. I hope this helps her!
