I need your name, profession, place of employment, how did you get interested in your profession, What do you like best about it? What are
some of the things you dislike about it, Is this a promising profession for the future, do you recommend it for young
people like me? Why, or why not? How long does it take before you can start working independently in this field?
What kind of advanced study or degree does somebody have to do to be this
kind of biologist?
What kind of starting salary could I expect? What are the upper limits of salary
What kind of continuing education is required in this field once you enter it?
If you had your undergraduate years to do over again in preparing for this
profession, is there anything you would do differently? Are there other courses
you would take? What would you major in?
Is there any general advice you would like to give me or any beginning science
student who is thinking about a career in this area?

Thanks so much…this is why people shouldnt procrastinate!!! (EX me)

Need to go back to school fast!?

I thinking about going back to school. I have taken a few medical courses last year and I thought about going in the same direction.

I still have to work a full time job, so I need to find a Continuing Education program where it takes limited time and classes to help me get a jump start on a new career.

What are some Health field Continuing Education programs that take little time to acquirer and will pay good money?

(I’m looking for a career that I can train for in a short period of time that is going to pay well (when I start the new career) but also open up doors for other opportunities. )

I’m very limited on funds for school, so please keep that in mind. Thanks

This year I plan to turn my volunteer-only piano playing into a part-time hobby business, hopefully to include playing at weddings, private parties, perhaps at a restaurant and/or teaching a little.

Are all the following expenses able to be deducted from gross revenues for calculating my taxable net revenue?

1. New equipment (will probably need to upgrade my electronic keyboard).

2. Existing musical equipment (such as grand piano) that I previously used for hobby-only, but now would use as part of business — for teaching, practicing for gigs, etc.

3. Continuing education to increase my skill, my ability to get more business and charge more. For example, courses leading to a masters degree?

Finally, how long does the IRS allow this type of hobby business to continue to operate at a loss before they consider it really not a business but just a hobby? For example, I can imagine that start up expenses would easily be more than a first year of revenue, and possibly could eat up pretty much all of the second year’s revenue also.

Why is this taboo???

I think that a very important part of a young person deciding what they want to do with their life is the ability to know the potential of income they will recieve for a specific job. Why is it so taboo for anyone to ask anyone else what they make at their job? Why is it wrong to ask at a job interview what you will be paid? They know you’re not REALLY there for the benefit of the company, but because you have to make money. So why is this so taboo? Personally, I am completely fine with telling people what I make at my job… or what I have made at previous jobs.

example… I am currently licensed and selling real estate. At one of the continuing education classes, I was talking with a lady about possibly teaching RE courses. She had recently started doing this herself. I asked her if it pays well and she only said that it paid well if you went with a private real estate school. If you teach at the comm college not so well. She didn’t give any specific answer. Why??????????????????

My son is a college student here in south Louisiana, and is attending a French Immersion summer semester at a university in Nova Scotia this July.

Are there any airlines that offer student discounts?
We’re both looking online, and at previous questions here, but no luck so far.

Also, anyone with input as far as organizations or sponsors that aid college students with continuing education expenses or the like, would be so helpful.

I am researching any type of French groups or organizations that might offer assistance….but it’s mostly in French!
His university is helping him with tuition, but the additional costs are still quite high.

Thanks so much!

Should I get screened for adult ADD/ADHD?

I have had such a hard time concentrating lately, and I noticed recently I got very angry when I was trying to read something and people were talking at coffee shop. It took me an hour to read six pages in a book (about a subject that’s kind of boring, for continuing education) — and it’s not as if I’m not "bright," I actually got my degree in English.

School was never a "struggle" for me; however, it was me doing the least amount of work possible, so I wonder if now that I’m trying to do things "right," and do all the reading necessary and be an "A" student instead of a "B" student, it’s coming out a bit more that I’ve always had at least some troubles focusing. I’m constantly switching between tasks at my job (I do something different every ten minutes) and actually enjoy being interrupted. I just feel insanely bored and listless all the time, and never feel like doing anything, and get so easily distracted.

I have used a few of the online screening tools that say I’m at least moderate ADHD. I don’t know, maybe I’m just being paranoid since both my younger brothers were diagnosed with ADHD, my mom has depression, and my dad is schizophrenic, I’m just waiting for my "big issue" to come along.

And if I should get screened, where do I go? What do I do?

I have student loans which state that I must be enrolled at least half time (6 hours) to keep my loans in deferment. I am a continuing education student. I’m dropping below full time for the first time. I will be taking 6 hours this summer and 7 this fall. My question is does it make a difference if I am continuing ed or a regular student? I think it should count since I’m taking the same number of hours but I am not sure. I can’t find anything about it on the loan companies websites.

I need to get some credits done for my certification and I’m not exactly rolling in money right now. I’ve done the CE credits in the 20/20 magazine, which usually costs about for one lousy credit. I’m just wondering if anyone may have a source to find either free credits or cheaper credits, preferably online. I just find it to be a rip-off to pay to read a 2 page article and then take a 15 question multiple-choice quiz on it. I don’t necessarily expect to pay nothing for the credits, but I think those are a rip-off. And unfortunately, my employer is not pro-active about continuing education for his employees. My previous employer (an Ophthalmologist) paid for me to get my certification and my current employer does not encourage any type of continung ed. and certainly will not help pay for it. In fact, I think he discourages it because that means his employees will want more money. LOL

Thanks!!!
Acred - My employer IS a jerk…but the people and patients I work with are FAB-U-LOUS, which is why I still work there. They are incredibly accomodating with my part-time schedule (have a little one at home and a hubby in the military) and I have logged almost 10 years with them. I actually quit my current job back in 2003 to go work for an Ophthalmologist’s practice (they are the ones who paid for me to take my ABO and supplied the study materials) and then got married and had a baby, took a year off, and then went back to my current employer on a part-time basis. I am currently the only certified optician in my office and I am very proud of it, but when it comes to continuing ed, I am on my own, which why I am asking the question because I don’t have the money to spend on all kinds of credits. I am going to keep it current, especially since if I let it go, my current job will not pay for me to re-test.

My current employer is a cheap jerk which is why I’m asking! LOL

Background check for new job?

Here’s the deal, I got hired at a place that provides continuing education for insurance places. They said they will do a background check, check references, etc, BEFORE I am officially hired.

About 5 years ago, I was caught shoplifting, I was about 21 years old. Stupid yes, but nothing I can do to change it now.

On the app it asks if I have had any misdeamenors/felonies in the last 10 years (YES). But in WI we have circuit court and this record does not show up for me, so I thought maybe they had just missed it. I went to the police station this morning to get a copy of my records but it will take 3-5 business days. I also did an online "background check" and it says I have no records, which I know is false.

Do you think I should risk saying what I did, even though it may not be on my record? Or do you think they just check circuit court records and I may be safe not mentioning it? I know I should be honest, but it’s embarrassing I guess. Lesson learned!
When I got the ticket, I didn’t go to court because I was guilty. So I was convicted. Do office jobs really not hire due to shoplifting? I would be working with some confidential information.
