I have been going to this dentist who lately doesn’t seem to be in the office that much. This last visit was in order to have my temporary crown removed and have the permanent one put in. It turned out that he was out of town on vacation. The two dental assistants in the office did the work with one permanently cementing it in. I live in the state of Florida, and I’m wondering if this was legal for a dental assistant to do this. I am rather concerned as to whether it was adjusted properly. Also, I’m having some twinges in that area of my mouth but hoping they will settle down. Wondering if anyone knows for sure whether a dental assistant is allowed to do this in Florida. I don’t really want to go back to this dentist because he also doesn’t followup on things that well and, like I said, is gone so much. Would appreciate any info. Thanks

Do you think it’s weird or feminine for a male to be a dental assistant?

I’m looking into being a Dental Assistant but I’d like to hear what the job is like from someone who is a D.A. Is the pay good? How long does school take? Is finding and keeping a job easy? What are your daily duties? Thanks to anyone that can help me out!

I am a dental assistant, so I know the behinds the scenes reasons why dentistry is so expensive. I am amazed at the number of people on here who call dentists money hungry and complain about the amount of money that dentists make, but a dentist isn’t so bad when that same person has a horrible toothach. Do patients really think that the money they pay a dentist goes directly into their pocket? Do patients not realize that everything that they see in that office, from the drills to the anesthetic down to a single piece of paper, costs money, and that a dentist has to pay for all of this, rent, lab bills, utilities, salaries, malpractice insurance, continueing ed courses, repairs to computers and other equipment, before he pockets a dime of the money patients pay him? I can tell you, if I went to school for 8 years, paid over 0,000 for dental school, and had to deal with the issues that dentists do, I would expect to take home over 00,000 a year. Wouldn’t you?
I don’t mean to be on a soap box here, but there are alot of people on here complaining about something that they know absolutely nothing about. It would be like me complaining that my daughters pediatrician charges too much, when I don’t have the slightest clue what it takes to run a pediatric office or how much their overhead costs. I would be "talking out my _ _ _." That is what I think some on here are doing. You shouldn’t critisize something you know nothing about. And if you are not in the dental field or never have been, then you have no right to critisize, till you know all the facts.
I meant to type 00,000 at the end of my first paragraph, not a million.

I just became a dental assistant in California, I know I have to work for 15 months before I can sit for the RDA exam but I’ll be moving to Washington before I complete the 15 months. Can I just continue in Washington and take the RDA exam or will I have to start the 15 months over again?
