Dental Hygiene Program
do I first need to graduate from a 4year university, taking the necessary courses, and then take the tests and apply to a dental Hygiene program? or do i go Straight for the dental Hygiene program after i graduate high school? im lost =?
I am considering a dental hygiene program but I still want to earn a bachelors degree. There are no colleges in the state of Alabama that offer bachelor degrees in dental hygiene. What else could I major in?
I go to a community college in florida and I was told that at community colleges the waiting list is two years when you apply to the dental hygiene program, plus two years of training. However I spoke to someone who goes to sanford brown institute and she told me that the dental hygiene program is only 9 months to 1 year there and no waiting list. I’m working on my CDA right now. You think I should switch schools to become a hygienist?
I been working as a dental assistant for over 6 years, but i dont have a licese. i have x-ray and cpr liceses; i also finished with the pre-reqs for dental hygiene program. There is any way that i can take the test without having to go to school?
I am in college right now, taking the general ed classes for the dental hygiene program. I took math and barely passed with a C and now I’m taking chemistry and am confused more and more as the days go on. I can handle all the blood and nasty parts of being a dental hygienist, but the science and math requirements are killing me. Is that a sign to choose a different path?
I start the dental hygiene program this fall and will be finished june 2010. I am wondering what the starting pay is for a dental hygienist in traverse city, michigan as of today. I have been on salary.com and all the like. I am looking for an actual dental hygienist in the area who can give me a better figure. Thanks for the help!
I have just finished my first semester in nursing school and did not enjoy it at all. So I am thinking about transferring into a dental hygiene program before I go too far in my nursing career. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was hard to get a job as a dental hygienist and what would help me get in to a good dental office. I am thinking about going to school to be a dental assistant first and was wondering if that will be hard to find a job in as well. Thank you!
Here are some facts:
1. I have been accepted into a dental hygiene program that is due to start at the end of May 2008.
2. Have two younger children and still have significant daycare costs.
3. I have been able to continue school on a part-time basis to get my prereqs out of the way- now I either need to commit to a full-time school program, or drop out. No part-time option is offered.
4. Still have bills and will take a significant cut in pay. With gas prices continuing to rise and other expenses doing the same, I already know that I will have some financial issues.
5. Current position is full-time during the day- they will not work with me as my education would be in a completely different area of work.
6. While I already have a BA in business, I am very unhappy and disconnected with this choice. I stayed in this position to be able to take my classes and pay bills. The thought of staying here is very disheartening and self demoralizing.
7. 5 years from now, if I stay were I am at, I would be in the same position and still earning less than the average for this position at a different company.
8. So far the financial aid information that I have gotten has not been good- mostly due to the fact that I would be going back to school for an AS. If I was going for my masters, loans would be no problem. But I absolutely hate doing what I do now.
9. I have been looking at finding something that was either part-time afternoons or at night- no luck yet as most places state that I am too overqualified, or would become bored too easily.
10. If I cannot swing the cut in pay and tuition for the two years that this program would require, I would need to retake some of my classes again as the science classes are only good for 7 years.
11. Getting reaccepted into this program is almost never heard of, I either go now, or forget about it.
In response to the financial aid bieng fishy comment- What I have found out so far is that most of your all of your PELL loans and some grants are based on your number of credit hours thus insuring that you are obtaining your associates or bachelors degree on your first time around.
When I applied with the FAFSA, I was told that I would not be elligible for the Pell Loans due to the fact that I was returning to school with a previous degree. My finanical aid office advisor came back and told me that loans would be hard to get and at a higher interest rate, most of their grants were aimed at the students looking to recieve their first degree or those that were returning for nursing.
