I’m just looking for opinions from people that know a life of an associate dentist that does not worry about the responsibilities of owning own dental practice and of a dentist who has to run a private practice.

Looking for more affordable insurance for me, my partners and our dental practice. We think there is too little choice of insurance companies offering professional liability and other commercial insurance to dental practices and dentists. Does anyone know who else can offer us more choices in competitive coverage?

What other insurances we would have to keep.

The dental practice I have been going to was taken over by a new dentist. My husband and I went in and were told we both needed over 00 in dental work EACH. We had not had x-rays in about a year and a half. The dentist wanted to replace all our silver fillings saying that there was probably rust underneath them, wanted to do crowns on various teeth, etc. Just seemed kind of excessive.

I recently received a diploma in dental assisting. I am in a situation where I can only work late evenings and Saturdays. (Not prime hours for a dental practice) Although I am trained in assisting I am more interested in working in the business office or even central sterilization. Does anybody have any suggestions on jobs I could try to get or any creative ideas for a resume that would make me seem valuable to a dentist. I would perform any duty just to get my foot in the door. I’m afraid with my odd hours finding anything will seem nearly impossible. Thank you for any help.

How to turn down a dental temp job professionally?

I work for a dental temporary agency as an assistant. I go to many different offices-some better than others. Today I worked at one of those "chain" dental places and the attitudes of the people working there were unprofessional. They (including the dentist) talked badly about the patients behind their backs after they left the office and they also do not practice privacy laws as they should. A patient was in the chair and the office manager came in and she and the dentist were discussing their schedule using full names of other patients. The care is atrocious and hygiene practices are questionable.
I do not want to go back there as I have ethics and I can’t believe what i saw. My question is how to tell the temp agency I do not want to go back to that office in a way that I won’t be "slanderous" against the dental practice? I do not want to get into the reasons and I am sure they will question me as to why I do not want to be there. I don’t want to say anything bad about the office that might have repercussions for me in any way. I know the temp agency will ask me to go again as this place is very shorthanded now. How do I get out of this in a professional manner? When they do call me to work, they just ask if I am available tha certain day before saying where the job is and I can’t turn down other work so I have to be truthful about going there. How to handle this?

I am in the process of creating a pro forma cash flow statement for the first 3 years of a startup dental practice (my own). I do have my own set of assumptions and beliefs about the numbers I am capable of producing based upon my personal skills and the area demographics.

However, after extensive Googling, I have been unable to find any sort of data on industry averages, or any actual financial statements from the first 3 years of a new dental practice startup. I would really like to compare my assumptions to someone else’s, or to see someone’s actual numbers. If anyone can provide their own (please remove your personal information of course), or point me in the direction of a resource, I would greatly appreciate it!

I have owned a dental practice for almost two years. The production is great around 500k but i am still struggling financially. My home expenses are not out of control, about 10k per month but I am having a hard time paying the bills. Where is all the money going? I think I have too much overhead, and am overpaying my staff. My hygienist profits me about 30k per year, and I think I pay to much in lab fees and expenses. My main question is has anyone ran a practice without an assistant, as my my wife can replace the current front desk person, and are there any other ways to trim the fat and profit more?
I seem to have added mortgage payments for 3 properties as well as car payments on two vehicle, as well as taxes, insurance, student loans, gas etc.
So the 10k is probably more around 2500 for personal expenses.
