I met with the surgeon a couple of weeks ago but that was in talks of the insurance coverage and the type of procedure my dentist ordered. My heard from our family dentist that she’s really good but I wanted to bring in a couple of examples of what I want my teeth to look like after since when I first got it done by a different surgeon, I didn’t really feel like all the gum was taken away after a few months. The sooner I get the surgery, the sooner I get my braces off and I don’t want to have to do it another time after my braces come off to get the teeth I want. I want her to shape my gums so my teeth will look bigger and more visible, resulting in really nice teeth (wtih no excess gum in between) after my braces are off.
I’m 15 though, so can bring a few pictures in or would that be offesive or something?
Thanks.
Oh ok. Thanks for answering !

I was diagnosed with Advanced Periodontal Disease about a month ago. The dentist said I needed my gums irrigated and it would help so I had this expensive procedure done. It has not helped! My gums are still painful, swollen, bleeding, and seem to be detaching from my teeth. He prescribed me a mouthwash to put in a "pocket irrigator" he gave me and told me to do this every other day. I have skipped a few times but It seems to me there should still be some improvement. I brush regularly and try to floss everyday but I’m always running late and don’t always have time. Is there anything I can do to help my disease other than brushing, flossing, and using the mouthwash irrigator? Professional advice is greatly appreciated. I’m 22 years old, my mouth hurts all the time, and I’m afraid of losing my teeth so soon.

dental malpractice?

I went to have oral surgery done to me a few days ago (my right upper wisdom tooth had a cavity which was hurting). While I was being X-Rayed, I told the lady she was x-raying the wrong one. She said the machine x-rayed the entire mouth. Later I was being prepared for the oral surgeon. He came to inject my mouth a few times. After the extraction I came home to recover and start my liquid diet. I was getting atinlging sensation so I went to look in the mirror. I was amazed, the dentist extracted the wrong tooth, it was the right number, but the wrong side. I called his cell phone that same might and I told him what he had done. He told me to come in the next day and he would extract the "right one" for free. Now I am sitting here with both of my gums stiched. I am being charged 0 for the tooth extraction. Though I feel horrible, I do not think I shoud pay them. I paid them using my VIsa, what shoud I do know? Should I not pay? Should I contact my Visa? Should I find an attorney?
I do not want to be slick, but has anyone had a similar experience? I have heard of many people getting their wrong teeth pulled? Is the case worth fighting? What can be the end result? My good tooth was perfect, it had no problems, the oral suregeon said it would eventually go bad, so will my eyes, but I am not getting them removed without consent! Any ideas out there?

What kind of dental floss is best?

My husband bought two kinds of floss and I have one upstairs and one downstairs so I use both regularly.

The one upstairs is really thick (I think it’s Oral B) and it doesn’t hurt as much as the one downstairs (Boots brand) which is regular floss and sometimes makes my gums hurt if I am not careful.

I wonder if the thick one does the same job as the thin one? Is there anything else I should know about floss, to get the most out of my daily routine?

I’m 22 and I went to the dentist on one of those "introductory" visit offers. It was only 59 dollars for a cleaning, exam and x-ray. The girl cleaning my teeth said I had plaque or tartar or something so large that it was showing up on x-ray. It had been a while since my last cleaning, and I don’t floss anymore because it hurts so much, so I could believe that. They tell me they recommend that I get this 670 dollar treatment done over the next four months. With doctor visits that’s around 830 dollars. I have no dental insurance. My question is, should I be skeptical of the advice this new dentist is giving me? I don’t have a regular dentist and I always just go with whoever has the cheapest prices. I’m thinking maybe they’re trying to just hook another customer. They told me I had pockets up to 4 and 5 mm and they don’t want to see anything under 3mm. I asked them why my last dentist didn’t tell me about this (Same deal. Introductory cleaning, x-ray and exam) and they just said they didn’t want to bad-mouth another office, but they probably just weren’t as aggressive about it as the new office was. The dentist came in when my surface cleaning was over and said for me to think that over, and just in the meantime brush my gums and use Listerine. What’s the deal here? Do I really have anything to worry about? Hell, the girl that cleaned my teeth said 80% of the population had some form of periodontal disease. Dental care is a luxury for me. I would rather eat and have a place to live than have perfect pearly white teeth (which isn’t gonna happen anyway). Anybody have any advice for me that won’t cost me an arm and a leg?
Okay well I can’t afford this. So I guess I’ll just have to lose some teeth. Also, flossing only hurts because I haven’t been in a good rhythm. I’ll try to get back into it.

I dunno…it’s like anywhere I go I feel like I’m being sold a product or a lifestyle that isn’t really necessary. Bad mouth health might cause sickness, but I never get sick. I just feel skeptical. Even if I did want this treatment, there is no way I could afford it. My teeth are jacked up as it is. Maybe later on I can afford dentures and I’ll have pretty teeth.

or what else I can do about it. Long story, I went to a new dentist to get crown lengthening and a build up from a root canal and I asked to be premeditated because I am terrified of dentist and have been so in the past. He refused and said I would not feel anything because the nerve endings are dead, I trusted him and let me tell you when he cut into my gums for crown lengthening I sure felt that! He tried to numb me but the pain even from the shot was horrible I said I had enough, he called me a baby and told me to have it pulled if I have this much trouble getting work done.

Well I thought what a bad dentist… well the same day a friend of mine came to the same dentist unaware what I had been through and the Dentist and the Dental assistant were talking about me and my tooth that they said I just needed to get extracted and I was a horrible baby and speaking about my confidential file in front of my friend unaware that I knew them (I mean talking like first and last name). IT went on for an hour so on and so forth of what the dentist was speaking about me. Isn’t this a severe confidentiality breach? What can be done? If he does this with me he obviously does this with other patients. I feel completely humiliated and like my privacy was not respected at all.

Gum surgery for periodontal disease.?

When the Perio was looking, he was shouting out numbers to the assitant like it was the lottery. Mostly 4′s and 5′s. I have to get surgery.
The thought sounds scary. but almost 3 yrs ago, I had all my upper teeth crowned and also they put a permanent three tooth bridge in it-it is all one piece and was pretty easy for me to handle.
The Periodontist says if I could handle all that, then I should have no worries about this, he says my gums will be sore, but I won’t be miserable.
Is he telling me the whole truth?
What can I really expect?
He said they will do a quad at a time- so i have to go back 4 times? Ohh nooo.
He also said a yr ago, I should have has a scailing and root planning, but now, no, it’s time for surgery.
Unschool, I have never heard of those procedures- I live in NJ, with not the greatest insurance, maybe that is why they didn’t tell me about this??

Did I catch the periodontal disease in time?

I’m 25 and I got diagnosed with periodontal disease and well I have 7 small cavities in my molar, 1 tooth that needs to be extracted and my gums are swollen. I’m getting my tooth extracted and my cavities filled than I’m going to be working on the cleanings…I’m too young to have this! Anyone else who has had this around my age? It does run in my family, my mom and my sister both have it also. Does it sound like I caught it in time? How bad can it get? Can this be reveresed? It doesnt sound like i have fully advanced, it sounds more so moderate I think. I have a sweet tooth and I am trying so hard now to stay away from them now! Can caffiene in pop cause it too?

I’m a military wife currently living in this area and looking for a good cosmetic dentist with reasonable rates! As a kid, I had 3-4 years of orthodontics ranging from and expander to brace to a retainer to nightly headgear. Truthfully, it didn’t amount to much. I have more issues than Playboy…So here goes:

Due to what I’ve been told is a congenital disorder, all of my adult teeth didn’t emerge until I was around 17 years old. This was 4 years after any orthodontic treatment was done. Currently, I still have two baby teeth (one of each side of my mouth) with the adult teeth behind them throwing any alignment I once had completely out of whack. The two front teeth are of decent shape and size. It’s the 3 next to them on either side that are misaligned, misshapen, spaced out, and much smaller.

I also have a palate problem in which it seems to go up way too far. The expander was supposed to correct this issue, because it also caused crowding, but unfortunately it didn’t do what was anticipated. It also causes me a lot of sinus discomfort and I have a difficult time breathing out of my nose. Being a mouth breather isn’t fun! Even while researching, I haven’t heard of any treatment method for this. Does anyone know of a possible solution?

The thing I’m most interested in receiving is a gum lift! I feel like my gums are massive in comparison to my teeth. This has always been a HUGE source of embarrassment for me and I’m more than eager to resolve it above anything else. They started to "swell" when I hit puberty and they just look awful. Now I’m started to notice an increase of issues with them bleeding or hurting and I want to get it corrected first and foremost.

I haven’t signed up for Tricare Dental yet for myself, because after doing my homework, it just doesn’t seem very worthwhile. As with most insurance, cosmetics aren’t even a consideration. I’m no longer interest in going down the bleak path of orthodontics (which has crazy rules and restrictions anyway). If anyone has any contradictory information about Tricare Dental, please let me know!

I’ve recently come into a small amount of money and intend to use a portion of it to get this work done. We live a debt free life, so I’m looking to pay in full or make a large deposit and arrange small monthly payments. The rest of money is going toward school so I can complete my degree. Therefore, I’d like to keep the cost around the ,000 mark (or less of course if possible). I’d go a bit higher, but not much.

Thanks in advance for any help or recommendations you can offer!
