I have the clear Essix retainer (I guess my dentist was trying to be cheap) for 5 years. For those of you who know about it, or had it, you know it isn’t very durable even with normal use. It gets random mineral build ups and gets pretty gross. The back where the molar are gets a bit cracked.
I stopped wearing them for 2 month, but looks like my teeth are shifting (thanks to the growing wisdom teeth). I won’t have time to get my wisdom teeth pulled out for another few month since I won’t be around because of college. So I am wearing my retainers again. However, they are a bit cracked and disgusting. I want to get the wire kind retainers because they last a LOT longer and won’t get as disgusting. I don’t really mind wearing retainers for like the rest of my life at night just to keep my teeth straight, they don’t bother me.
I have Delta Dental, I know they know don’t cover lost retainers, but I don’t know…. this is normal use, not my fault that the retainer’s life isn’t that great.
Is there anyway I can get it covered? If not, approximately how much would it cost me out of the pocket?
Actually, problem is solved.
My old retainers were with my mom’s dental insurance.
I used my dad’s now, so that covers one retainer.
Once is start working after college/grad school (4-5year), I’ll get my own dental insurance… etc so it shouldn’t be a problem even if my second ones break.

I’m 25 and I got diagonsed with periodontal disease..and it’s what my mom has. Is it heriditary? I haven’t been to the dentist in years because of not being able to afford it. But I do brush my teeth every day and floss too, it’s just getting worse. She didn’t say I have advanced periodontal disease she just said I have it. I right now have an an abscess, or an infection on the left side of my mouth and it hurts really bad. I am too young to have this! What causes this? Do you really have to go every 3 mos to get a cleaning done? Is there anything else I can do? I want to get the first cleaning done but right now I want to do everything in my power to prevent this from happening again.

Does it hurt? Does it really go away sometimes after taking antibiotics, because my tooth didn’t hurt for 2 days and I didn’t take pain killers today. Will they give me vicodin after the root canal or will I just stay on ibuprofen?
I want some vicodin, but my parents don’t want me to take it. My mom says that her bed started flying. haha.

Please,no mean comments.
I was born with a genetic disorder, I guess you would call it. Its called Amilio Genisis Imperfecta, I hope I spelled that right. Esentially, I have very little, to no enamel on my teeth. It makes me prone to cavaties (which I have always had to deal with) they are extremely sensitive to hot and cold, not to mention they appear discolored. My mom recently had porclein veneers put on hers(she has it too) and her dentist said that I could probably have mine done too, and claim it as a medical necessity for insurance, instead of cosmetic. Does anyone know if this is true? Also,he said I could claim it like that on my tax return too. Can anyone help me out here? I could never afford to have then veneered (almost ,000 for my mom) but if insurance would cover most of it as nessecary, then I probably could afford it. Thanks
Title is supposed to say:
Genetic dental disorder, can I claim it as a medical mecessity. Sorry, typo.

my mom has a crack in her root canal, and has an infection that won’t go away, it is in one of her molars. it has to be puled and she’ll get a replacement one(fake tooth) that will be permanent, but might damage her mouth in the long run, and the infection won’t go away if the tooth isn’t pulled. the operation costs around 0-00 and we are fixing up a house that we will move into in mid june, is thereany other way to get rid of the infection? Please help!

Hi. I am a stay at home air force wife and mom to a 10 month old. I graduated high school in 2005 and went straight to college. I went for two years but with all of the partying, I missed a lot of classes so I probably have 1 year of full time credits under my belt. I haven’t been to school since the spring semester of 2007. Please give me some advice to continue to get my degree. Should I take online classes, take some clep tests, go back full or part timr? I will pick most helpful answer as best, thank you in advance.
When I was at USC my major was business management, but I switched to pre-law, so I have credits for both majors. I want to be a defense attorney. I placed out of taking math completely but I took some math just as electives. I.m sure that I can take clep tests and pass no problem. but what would be best?

So I have no insurance because my mom took me off her plan because she could no longer afford it.
my mom makes 40,000 a year but she’s a widow so all her money goes to bills and payments. She is struggling to keep up with her payments though and considering a part time job.
So I fell and my face hit the pavement thus chipping my front tooth. It really hurts but I don’t know what to do, since I don’t have insurance.
what do I do?

I’m 25 and I really plan to have kids soon *eventually soon, and I have read all these horror storys about having periodontal disease and having low-birth weight babies, and premature babies. I recently just got diagnosed with periodontal disease and I really plan on getting it treated and taken care of! I don’t think I’m in the advanced stages in it, more so the beginning or maybe a little after the beginning. I have some bone loss, but not a significant amount I’m assuming. My question is, if the periodontal disease is treated and under control, could you have a normal baby while having this disease?
I guess it is what the case I have. My mom has periodontal disease as well
