I am doing a Career Research Essay in my Eng101 class. I have done research online and unfortunately have ran out of information. The websites all say the same thing,so I thought to ask people that know first hand about being a nurse. I am pursing a career in Registered Nursing and plan to continue education after to become a Nurse Practitioner. I am asking for RNs or Nurse Practitioners to give me a general personal perspective or brief summary of their careers. I am also wondering:
What’s the best advantages of this career? Disadvantages?
How was the transition from RN to NP? (if you did advance)
What’s day to day life in the workplace?
Please any additional information you have will help!!!!!!! Thank you in advance!

for a project i need to know the job benefits of a nurse practitioner and a physicians assistant such as: health/dental insurance, malpractice insurance, prescription plan, pension, disability/unemployment, stock options, social security, freebies, etc.

anything would help. don’t refer me to wikipedia please i already looked there.
we have to explain the benefits of the jobs in general. we weren’t given any specifics so i don’t know exactly what to search for. any general information or common benefits for these jobs would help.

Which is better? RN vs. PA?

Let me start off by telling you a little about myself. I just graduated high school last month. While in school, I was in a Medical Assistant program, I finished that last month as well. So now I am planning on working as an MA part time, while going to college. I live in So Cal, and I am starting at Riverside Community College in September. They have a PA program and a Nursing program. I was initially leaning towards becoming a PA, but now I’m not so sure. Obviously I still need to take a bunch of prerequisite classes, so I still have a lot of time to think over this, but I think the earlier I sort this out, the better.

I want to find out more about being an RN. If I become a nurse, I want to continue my education and become a Nurse Practitioner.
But, what I want to know is this:
What do you, who are nurses already, have to say about your career?
Is it fulfilling? Is the pay good? Is it worth the effort to pursue the title NP? How is the work schedule(I heard nurses work only 3 days a week–though they are 12-hour shifts)? Would you recommend the Nursing career as opposed to Physician Assistant(or viceversa)? Why? Also, what is the difference between a Nurse Practitioner and a Physician Assistant in the work force?
Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What would you like to ask?

I’m actually commenting on an answer to a question asked about RNs getting their ADN vs BSN degree. I have not found it more difficult to continue my education after obtaining my ASN and working. I think in some cases working five or ten years prior to advancing nursing education is beneficial and makes returning to school more meaningful, especially if your goal is obtaining an MSN for a nurse practitioner certification or beyond. The online programs make this easier than in the past by being tied to schools that had limited admission numbers. Assignments are easier to respond to due to being able to draw on answers from experience.

Hi! I am considering going to school for Nursing. My intentions would be to become an Nurse Practitioner. I’ve heard so many different path options, I’d hate to waste time.

Is there some sort of bridge option to go from your Associates in Nursing straight through your Masters? Or do you need to stop at the point of BSN, become an RN then continue? If you do, can work experience be part of your continuing education towards your masters?

ive read a lot and some things say that you have to get your BSN and work as a RN fcor one or two years before you can continue education to become a nurse practitioner…but can i just go to school for my masters and become an NP at the end…and just skip RN?

I am currently a 2nd semester nursing student and have been undergoing several different clinical rotation experiences. I’ve recently got to work on an oncology floor and now I am doing med-surg. I realized that I’m not bedside nurse material. Is there any other nursing fields I can go into that doesn’t require being a bedside nurse? And for those nurses who think real nurses are only "bedside nurses" please do not write judgemental responses…I just need some advice to what other types of jobs are out there for nursing beside bedside nursing (i.e. Public Health Nurse, Nurse Practitioner). Oh, another question, if anyone is a nurse practitioner, please give me your input because I am quite initerested…any advice would help. Oh, hint…I do want to continue my education (but I don’t want to be a teacher)
