Can anybody answer a question about employment in a dental office?
I recently received a diploma in dental assisting. I am in a situation where I can only work late evenings and Saturdays. (Not prime hours for a dental practice) Although I am trained in assisting I am more interested in working in the business office or even central sterilization. Does anybody have any suggestions on jobs I could try to get or any creative ideas for a resume that would make me seem valuable to a dentist. I would perform any duty just to get my foot in the door. I’m afraid with my odd hours finding anything will seem nearly impossible. Thank you for any help.

I’m assuming your school has job placement assistance. I’d talk to them and see if they have any ideas. Perhaps do some cold calling, talk to the business manager and see what they suggest. You’re right, those are tough hours for a dental practice!
I am afraid with your hours there isn’t much you can do at a dental office…especially since 9 outta 10 are closed Friday, Saturday & Sunday…
How bout working at a hospital until you can get a day time job?
There are some larger clinics (such as "Brite Now Dental") or chains where extended hours are offered. I would think most of them would be extremely grateful to have someone willing to cover night and weekend shifts.
Most private practice dental offices are not open late or on weekend. Other options would be a dental lab, a sales position with a dental supply company, or working as an assistant for a dental college.
Try a larger office with more docs in it, they sometimes share shifts and work longer hours and Saturdays.
Also, you could look into orthodontics. I have worked in ortho for 8 years and they always need people to work later (when school is out…primetime!) and Saturdays.
