laser gum surgery?
My 14 year olds gums are growing over her teeth. She will be haveing laser gum surgery next week. Her friends have told her horror stories and now she is terrified to tears. (Dumb friends). Please let her know what to expect. The dentist has already told her but I want her to see what an outsider has to say. I will show her this posting. Thanks in advance.

I’m a dentist.
I perform these gum surgeries all the time.
Let me assure you, "gum lifts" are far-and-away the easiest procedures for a patient to tolerate. Even easier than having a filling. Not only that, but post-operative discomfort is minimal. How do I know this? Because I have NEVER had a patient tell me that they had a lot of pain afterward. They tell me that their gums were slightly sore for a day, and then they were back to normal the next day. And I don’t even use a laser! I use a blade and an electrocautery device. When the procedure is performed with a laser, post-operative discomfort is virtually non-existent.
The procedure does take some time to perform, as the doctor has to be very careful about trimming the right amount of gingiva from each tooth. And, of course, your daughter will need a few shots to numb all the areas before the procedure. But again, even the shots only hurt a little.
Make sure your daughter understands that people like to exaggerate how "difficult" their dental work was. Why? Because it makes their stories more interesting. If your daughter’s friends told her that gum surgery was easy as pie, they wouldn’t garner much of her attention, now would they!
Well dumb friends yes lol. It should be fine, dentists hardly do anything to make you uncomftable. If they do you can tell them and they might give you some pain relief. However laser surgery may be a little different, but im sure its nothing bad at all. I have had all sorts of things done to my teeth and none caused me any pain or horror.
oh she shouldnt be worried at all, first off – she will be numb, and second, this is a fairly easy procedure and very easy and quick healing to follow! kids have a tendency to enjoy telling horror stories and exaggerating alot! lots of kids with braces experience this sort of gum problem, i think she will do just fine!
