Young Parents and Continuing Their Education ?

Any out there ? Did you ever go back to college after having your kid or did you just stick to a High School Diploma ? How’d you handle it ?

I went back to college when my daughter was three. ( I was 23). I was on my way to divorce, but had about another two years of hell before I did.
I tried to ease in by taking night classes, but as you go on, you won’t be able to get the classes you need except during the day. I worked, too, so you need to find extremely flexible employment if you work. It is miserable, but it can be done. I took a semester off when my son was born in my senior year of college,too.
Then when I got my bachelors I went to law school and became a lawyer! With two kids, working! I won’t lie and tell you it wasn’t the hardest thing I have ever done (along with raising my kids), but YOU CAN DO IT, don’t give up and don’t let anyone tell you it’s too hard. Just keep your eyes on the prize, remember that your life isn’t like anyone else’s, (SO DONT COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE ELSE) and keep on making the best decisions for you and your family!! You owe it to your kids to give them the best life you can, and you owe it to yourself to live up to your own potential!!!
I’m 24. I tried to go back once but I couldn’t finish. The hours where when I spent quality time with my family and it was really hard to give that up. I want to try again though.
I was 23, pregnant, with a 2 and 1 year old AND going through a divorce, when I went back to school and FINISHED.
I’m not going to lie, it was HARD but I did it. I wanted a better life for my children other than working at restaraunts…so I became a teacher. Good pay, off on nights and weekends, off two months in the summer, off EVERY holiday (and then some) But best of all, you are getting paid a full year for only 187 days of work!! I have insurance for myself and my kids and I am able to provide for them in a decent manner (WITHOUT childsupport, let me add..)
I recomend going back to school to become a teacher to anyone..perfect if you have kids and you are a single parent.
So, don’t let anyone tell you it can’t be done because it CAN. I am living proof:)
Look into distance learning. There are MANY online universities out there now. I am taking courses and the college sends me the books, I take the tests online and the finals usually have to be proctored by someone they approve.
My kids are in school so I have pretty much all day to study but if the kids are smaller, get at least an hour of studying in at night when they go to bed.
Yes, here I am!! Except that I am older now. Please try little by little. It is really great to accomplish what you want to do only that it will be at a smaller pace. I kind of waited for my kids to be at a age that they would be ok for a couple of hours alone. It’s alot of work, but remember that this will you feel so happy.
im 16 and have a 5 month old baby girl. nothing is impossible, im still in high school, i plan to graduate and go on to college too. her dad isnt very involved in her life so i do it all my self. dont worry, if you want to go back to college but think it would be too hard, try classes online. there are plenty of options out there.
